London: Monday, October 29th 2012

Today, the prestigious European Urban Music Awards announced the nominees for this year’s highly anticipated awards ceremony taking place on December 1st 2012.

Each year, thousands of avid music fans decide the nominees for each of the 21 categories in the event, and it is these fans who will decide the winners for the 10th Annual European Urban Music Awards ceremony.

British born singer- songwriter Rita Ora leads the way with a groundbreaking seven nominations for Best Newcomer, Best Single, Artist of The Year, Best International Artist, Best Music Video and Best Album for her debut self-titled release, ‘Ora’. Rita will go head to head with Scottish-born Emeli Sandé for the Artist of the Year and Best Music Video gongs, while Sandé also racks up nominations for Best Female Act, Best R&B Act and Best Collaboration.
Rising star Eva Simons – who sealed a Number 1 hit this year with ‘This Is Love’ in collaboration with fellow nominee will.i.am – is nominated for Best Newcomer, Best Female Act, Artist of the Year, Best R&B Act, and Best Single. She said of her nomination: “I am thrilled to be nominated and thanks to all the fans for nominating me on the 10th Anniversary of the UMA’s”.

Other nominees include Conor Maynard, with two in the bag for Best Newcomer and Best Collaboration for his single ‘Turn Around’, featuring chart-topping superstar Neyo, while the on-off romance between artists Rihanna and Chris Brown will certainly be the talk of the event as they battle it out for the gong in the Best International Artist category.

Successful British pop group JLS – originally discovered and promoted, prior to the X Factor, by the Urban Music Awards in 2007 – have bagged themselves three nominations for Best Group, Best R&B Act and Best Music Video for ‘Hottest Girl in the World’. The group commented: “The UMA’s supported us when we were unknown. The Urban Music Awards do all they can to promote and invest in talented artists still in their early days of the industry. We are very excited and thankful to be nominated”.

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary, the UMA’s have teamed up with newly-appointed sponsor Zuricom, a PC manufacturing brand, who have created 21 limited edition Swarovski diamond-encrusted UMA Zuricom Tablet PC’s especially for the occasion, worth £2000 apiece. These will be presented to the winner of each Urban Music Award category.
Michael Lee, CEO of Zuricom, states: “It is a special honour to announce a three year sponsorship deal with this year’s ‘European Urban Music Awards’. The UMA’s are a perfect target audience for our product brand and we are proud to be part of this prestigious event.” Past sponsors include Samsung Mobile, Timberland and Kickers.

Additionally, all attendees, nominees and guests of the UMA’s will each receive a commemorative official UMA album, ‘Number 1’ – due to be released on the night of the event – as part of their exclusive goodie bag.

The show will be televised on Sky TV, with show highlights syndicated by license with Invincible TV to over 22 countries worldwide.
