It was a successful night at the 9th annual Urban Music Awards which took place last night in London. Wretch 32 who was up for a record 6 categories walked away with 4 UMA awards including Best single, Best HipHop Act, Best Music Video, and Artist of the Year. Commenting on his awards the Wretch 32 said “It’s amazing . Last year i was saying i wish i could perform and win an award at the UMA’s and this year i am up on stage collecting 4 awards. This is one of my highlights of 2011”.
The UMA’s took place on the 3rd of October with celebrity guests including David Hasselhoff , Caprice, Matt & Darren Little (Channel 4), Natasha Hamilton, and top performances from US R&B superstar Jeremih and this year’s must sought after HipHop star, Mann ft. 50 cent who performed the hit single ‘Buzzin’ . The successful awards show also gave a surprise lifetime achievement award sponsored by WOWeeOne to legendary BBC Radio 1 presenter, Tim Westwood for his outstanding contribution to Urban Music . Tim Westwood added “The Urban Music Awards has been the backbone for British urban music in this country and Europe so to receive such an award. I am truly touched as this is my first ever UMA and is the biggest ever award for what i do. To know that music fans out there have shown this much love is truly touching . Thanks to the UMA’s”. Other performers who blazed the stage included Warner music’s latest signing , Clement Marfo & The Frontline who performed their rendition of Dr. Dre’s ‘I need a Doctor’ and their latest single ‘Overtime’ featuring Rap senstation ‘Ghetts’ . Starboy Nathan, Sony Music’s Bluey Robinson, Will and the People, and BMW award winning comedian Jimmy James Jones also graced the stage with their star ability. The awards show hosted by TV presenter , Tom Pullen who commanded presence and charisma with the long list of celebrities announced the closing performance from the winner of the Best Dance Act category , DJ Fresh ft. Sian Evans who performed one of the biggest hits of 2011, ‘Louder’ to an audience up on their feet and ready to party.
UMA presenter, David Hasselhoff fresh from his stint as judge on Britain’s Got Talent added “It’s great to be here at the Urban Music Awards. Britain has got so much talent and tonight certainly proved it. I particularly love the band Will and the People who definitely were my best act on the night”.

Born in Baltimore, MD,and after his theatrical debut at age seven in Peter Pan his childhood dream was to have a career on Broadway, but his first professional job came on the CBS soap opera, “The Young and the Restless,” playing Dr. Snapper Foster. Six years and 850 shows later later he was lured to prime time tv by NBC President, Brandon Tartikoff, to star in the now legendary “Knight Rider” as Michael Knight leading him to a People’s Choice Award for Most Popular Actor. The show 24 years later is still playing throughout the world.

In 1989, he headed the cast of “Baywatch,” and after being cancelled by NBC, it was acquired by Hasselhoff and the producing partners for first run syndication at which time he became one of the executive producers and TV history was made. “Baywatch” ran for ll years and is still viewed in 140 countries by over one billion viewers every week. ..making Hasselhoff the most watched tv star on the planet
Along the way Hasselhoff appeared in several feature films including Adam Sandler’s Click, The Spongebob Squarepants movie, Dodgeball:A True Underdog Story, Layover, Legacy, and his upcoming Universal release HOP with Russel Brand.
His remarkable musical career took off in the late 1980s when he recorded the album, “Looking For Freedom”, for BMG Germany at the end of the Cold War. The song became an anthem for East and West Germany and remained at the top of their charts for eight weeks. The album went triple platinum in Europe and Hasselhoff was named “Most Popular and Best Selling Artist of the Year.” He has since garnered over 40 gold and platinum records worldwide. In 1989, he sang “Looking For Freedom” from atop the Berlin Wall to over one million people during the New Year’s Eve German reunification .

The pair are now firmly established as two of the nation’s favourite TV presenters.

From initial slots on The Hollyoaks Music Show & Freshly Squeezed, they quickly developed their own brand of presenting appearing as roving reporters on Channel 4′s 2008 coverage of the V Festival to hosting their own show at the Edinburgh Festival & presenting Orange Rock Corp for T4. The duo also managed to develop their hugely popular radio show for Bauer’s Rock FM (narrowly missing out on a Sony newcomer nomination after only 3 months on air), presented The Clothes Show Live in Birmingham and became the faces of the Royal Air Force.

In 2009 the duo became the faces of 4Music, hosting The Versus Chart while launching their own ratings winning show “Red Bull Rivals” again for T4 while making numerous personal appearances with their own live show at venues across the UK.

2010 saw the boys launch a new handset for Sony Ericsson and The Carphone Warehouse, film a promotional video for The Outward Bounds Trust, shoot another series of ‘The Versus Chart’, work with Bauer on a launch for boyband The Wanted, been the faces of 4Music’s ‘Blog Star’ campaign and become the hosts of Channel 4′s Freshly Squeezed.

2011 promises to be as equally impressive, with a hosting slot on the Hollyoaks Music Show already in the bag. The Channel Four series sees Matt & Darren introduce the likes of The Wombats and Peter Andre to the stage.

They recently filmed for The Gadget Show, while the duo have also joined together to create a website surrounding their passion; Project Bunker.

Always on the move, Matt is cycling to Paris in aid of Diabetes UK, while the pair will present an award at the Urban Music Awards on the 3rd of Oct 2011
