<div><strong> </strong>It was definitely the hottest event so far  in the UK music calendar.  The UMA’s kicked off with an epic performance by Egypt backed by 20 finalists from Britain’s Next Model Superstar  walking the runway in true style .   Host  Ricky Whittle from Channel 4’s hollyoaks brought her edgy comedic flair to the Awards, making a dramatic entrance with over 100 Brazilian Models from drinks brand Salto on stage.</div>
<p><strong>Chart topper, Tinie Tempah</strong> stole the show with record 500,000 public votes earning him Best Newcomer, Best Collaboration and the Best HipHop Act sponsored by Kangol. He commented “The UMA’s is one of the most important awards for any artist doing music today and to win 3 record categories is a major achievement”</p>
<p>The UK’s biggest act, JLS who were discovered by the Urban Music Awards when they won the Best Unsigned Act in 2007 returned to the UMA’s in triumphant victory picking up two gongs for Best R&amp;B Act and Best Group.</p>
<p>In accepting the award, <strong>Marvin from JLS</strong> added “The Urban Music Awards supported us when no one believed in us. We won our first ever award at the UMA’s and were blessed with so many new fans and opportunities after that. Our special thanks go to all our fans for voting for us”. N-Dubz beat off competition from Alexandra Burke and Plan B to win Best Album 2010 whilst Diversity took home the Best Street Dance award from previous UMA Best Street Dance winners. As the Diversity group arrived through the red carpet, they spent 30 minutes in a media frenzy. Ashley from Diversity commented “ By now we are already use to the media attention but this time the UMA has stepped it up. It was crazy coming through the red carpet but i was totally blown away by winning our UMA’s. It’s one of the respected awards show that supports true talent from the grassroots to the charts and it was inspiring. The energy was great, i did’nt want to leave”.</p>
<p>Eastenders star Diane Parish took to the stage to present Best Gospel Act category to London Community Gospel Choir who delivered a breathtaking performance. Coolio left the reality tv show antics behind to proof that when it comes to music you can’t be cooler than Coolio . He flew in especially to perform his new single and a brand new rendition of classic ‘C u when you get there’ with the chourous backed by a full string quartet and saxophonist.</p>
<p>In another show highlight, the one-and-only . A new sexy, stunning and reformed looking Kerry Katona graced the stage to present the award for Best Radio Show. Her management and production company Can TV was also on hand to film her new reality TV show which will feature some scenes from the UMA’s.</p>
<p>She revealed at the Urban Music Awards that she was looking forward to the future and had left the past behind. “It’s a brand new me now, gone with the old. I am so happy to be here at the Urban Music Awards. There is so much good people and good energy here”.</p>
<p><strong>Urban Music Awards,  Marketing Director,</strong> Mark Smith who graced the stage to present the Best Album category won by N-Dubz added “The UMA’s started supporting homegrown urban artist when no other awards show in the UK was interested in supported. We were committed to making commercial superstars of urban music especially UK urban music. We passionately believed in it and the success of tonight goes to show how commercial and mainstream urban music is.</p>
<p><strong>UMA’s CEO Jordan Kensington</strong> added “The UMA’s breaks all traditions and all genres by marketing directly to fans across the country and with over 1.5 million votes received this year and with over 500,000 artists voting for acts such as Tinie Tempah and JLS alone. We are confident that the future of urban music will be phenomenal and our future plans to expand the brand in different countries will be equally successful”.</p>
<p><strong>Other performances on the night included ; Aggro Santos</strong> who gave a groundbreaking debut performance of his chart hits ‘Candy’ and ‘Saint &amp;Sinner’ whilst <strong>Nathan</strong> graced the stage with his single ‘Caught me slippin’ featuring US superstar <strong><em>Flo’Rida </em></strong>. Mclean gave an electric performance of chart hit ‘My Name’ and picked up the award for <strong>Best Music Video</strong> sponsored by Sleek.</p>
<p>SuperModel<strong>, Caprice and Simon Beagles </strong>Brand Manager at Sleek presented the winner of Britain’s Next Model Superstar toJemelin Artigas with Anastasia Galkova, Souad Tanout coming second and third runner up winners.</p>
<p>The 90’s boyband <strong>Damage</strong> who paved the way for Another Level, Blue, and JLS took the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music whilst Jazz Saxophonist, <strong>Courtney Pine CBE</strong> picked up the UMA Living Legend award. Soul legend , <strong>Sade</strong> was also recipient of the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award.</p>
<p><strong>Watch the 8th annual Urban Music Awards 2010 show on VATV (Sky Channel 218)</strong> in the UK on the <em>Saturday 25th of September 2010 at 9.30pm</em> and repeated on the <em>28th of September 2010 on Tuesday at 10pm. The show will also be broadcast in France and Belgium  on </em>on Canal Sat Horizon (channel 18) and across Africa  via Vox Africa</p>
